Why Focus On PageRank Only?
PageRank PageRank PageRank! Almost all the site owners and SEOs have one thought in their mind. The PageRank shows the actual reputation of their website to Google as well as users. Whenever an SEO optimizes a site then what is the important point in his mind? Just to increase PR of my website. Isn't it? Yes it is true. Mostly think that our moto of optimizing the website is to increase the PageRank which shows the quality of our website. Why webmasters don't think beyond PageRank? Why they don't think that rather than PageRank, there are some other very important factors to increase the visibility of your site in the eye of Google.
I give you an example which is real. I saw two competitors. Company A and Company B are two very well reputed organizations. Both have same online business. You know very well that SEO has a very strong factor in online businesses. The PageRanks of both companies are 5. Both companies are also very stable but the earning revenue and business of company B is double than that of company A. Suddenly due to the PR update by the Google, the PageRank of company A increases to 6 and company B remains the same 5. So company A celebrated a lot with great pomp and show. The representatives of the company A said "The quality of our website is higher than company B and now we have beaten it".
So did you think that it is a kind of foolishness which is showed by company A representatives? That's the way which I want to make you understand. The representatives of company A know that PageRank of their company increased and now greater than company B but they didn't think about a real factor that the revenue of company B is doubled than their. They celebrated just to increase a PageRank. Don't you think this victory is a real happiness? No. The real victory still belongs to company B that has double earning than company A.
So now, how will you rate PageRank in the importance of your website? I don't deny the importance of PageRank but to consider it everything is definitely wrong. There are some other factors which a webmaster should keep in his mind to improve his site's quality. Google's Webmaster Trend Analyst Susan Moskwa said, "PageRank shouldn't be considered as an end goal. Focusing on PageRank will only be effective when you think that your purpose is to increase the leads of your website and generate revenue." So according to Susan, a webmaster or an SEO should keep three other factors in their mind which are most important:
Conversions Rate
A conversion rate is basically the activity of a user which he performs on your websites. You want that user does this. Means that purchasing through your site, downloading something from your site, signing up in your site and subscribe for a newsletter are categorized as conversion rates. In simple words, conversion rate is the quantity of visitors who visit your site and perform some activity (which converts their mind to do some different on your site rather than just visiting). So if a user performs such an activity that directly gives benefit to your business then it is very good for your organization. Whereas, a PageRank can be increased or decreased without giving any benefit to your business.
Bounce Rate
A bounce rate is such a situation in which a user visits your website and then leaves it quick without visiting any other page. Bounce rate is the quantity of visitors that bounce from your site. Bounce rate can be measured in two different ways. The first is that when a visitor comes to your site and he doesn't find any useful thing according to his need and interest then he leaves the site quickly. The second is that a visitor who is the continuous reader of your site. When he comes to your site and doesn't find any fresh update or post then just will close the page. What's the reason? The reason is that you didn't update your site that becomes the cause of bounce rate. So please check consecutively the bounce rate of your website and try to reduce it by adding fresh updates and things according to user's interest. Think that what is the benefit of PageRank if users don't stay on your site?
Clickthrough Rate (CTR)
Clickthrough rate means how users click on your website while searching through search engines. Suppose if your site has 8 PageRank and its CTR is less then it means that people are not visiting your site. Do you know what does it mean? It means that users don't think that your site is according to their needs. Other sites are better than yours. To improve the CTR of your website, just make site title and meta description creative. Both should be short and brief which indicates shortly that what your site is about. This will provide a reason to the searchers to click on your site. So think that if the CTR of your website is low then is their any benefit of PageRank?
One more thing remembers. Many webmasters don't think beyond PageRank for a big reason. The reason is that people buy links from their sites just due to the high PR. For these webmasters, a clear statement in the Google Webmaster Guidelines is present that paid linking for just the purpose of increasing PR is against the Google Webmaster. It shows negative impact of your website to Google. So don't think that PageRank is everything. Think about the site structure, its visitors, its positive ways of earning and the three factors (conversion rate, bounce rate and clickthrough rate) which have been mentioned above. We shouldn't worry about what the PageRank is of our website.
